ROYAL MAIL IGNORES LOCAL PEOPLE
The Royal Mail is insisting it is going ahead with closing the Sorting Office. It has refused to respond to our requests for information or to consider local wishes. Jason Scott has not even given us the courtesy of a reply.

ROYAL MAIL CONFIRMS CLOSURE
WHY NOT ASK FOR FURTHER DETAILS...

The Royal Mail has confirmed to Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council that they will be transferring their operations from Whitchurch to Basingstoke on Tuesday 5th May 2009. The letter states:
Any customers unable to collect mail from Basingstoke Delivery Office can rearrange re-delivery to their home address, at a mutually convenient time and date, either online or by calling the number on the card notifying them we have an item for them. Alternatively customers can arrange to collect items from a local participating Post Office for a fee.

The letter ends:
If you need any further clarification on our plans, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Cluster Delivery Office Manager

SO LET'S ALL EMAIL JASON AND ASK HOW THIS WORKS.
WHERE ARE THESE LOCAL PARTICIPATING POST OFFICES?
WILL THIS APPLY TO ALL LETTERS AND PARCELS (OF ANY SIZE and SHAPE)?
HOW LONG WILL RE-DELIVERY TAKE?
IS IT ANY MUTUALLY CONVENIENT TIME?

LOCAL PETITION
Local Councillor Keith Watts took 245 signatures for his petition in a short space of time on Saturday morning. the petition states:
"We, the undersigned, call upon Royal Mail to reject the proposal to close the Local Delivery Office in Whitchurch, Hampshire and to confirm that the facility will remain open in the forseeable future."

Note that this is a Liberal Democrat petition but it echoes the views of this site. An online version is HERE

BUILDING SOLD
We have an unconfirmed report that following the previous campaign to keep the Whitchurch Sorting Office, the Royal Mail sold off the building and are no longer owners.

This makes one think - Is pressure from a developer being put on the Royal Mail to vacate the premises? Perhaps a lease is up for renewal? Who knows!
Further information on this is eargerly sought.

SIR GEORGE BACKS CAMPAIGN
Sir George Young MP Bt has written to us to say he fully behind the Campaign. His website gives more information as well as a reply from the Royal Mail; see HERE.
